See The Unseen

2 Corinthians 4:18 (GNB) For we fix our attention not on things that are seen, but on things that are unseen. What can be seen lasts only for a time, but what cannot be seen lasts forever. What we set before our eyes becomes important to us and guides us in life. While media advertising is encouraging us to amass material goods for ourselves and promises happiness, this verse in 2Corinthians is a timely reminder that when it comes to the temporal and eternal it's the eternal that will be around when "goods" we own are long gone. Therefore let us set our eyes on the things above and not things of this earth. We can enjoy what we work for here and now but when we know that there is life after death we will understand that what we invest our time and resources in will benefit us in eternity, and material goods will simply pass away. When we have a relationship with Christ we seek to grow in faith, humility, love and the fruits of the spirit - all things which can't be seen externally but which are important to the life of the Christian and enable us to go the distance and run the race God has set before us. If we are to make the most of the time we are given in this life and who knows how long that is for each of us? Then let us use it wisely and build with materials that are going to last and benefit us in the future, and those materials are ones that cannot be seen. Character, patience, love, faithfulness and integrity are qualities that you cannot hold in your hand and which people cannot see just looking at you externally but they are what Jesus values and blesses in our life. They are also qualities which will bless others as we influence those people around us with godly decisions and behaviour and inspire belief in knowing Jesus and the value of surrendering our life to Him. When buying goods people will spend time and money looking for quality, after all they want to invest in that which will last knowing the cheaper version is not worth it in the end. How much more should we treat the things of God and have our priority set to the eternal? What you set your eyes on will produce your thoughts which will guide your decisions that will lead you on the path you take in life. Focus on what will be around forever and heed God's word when He says "what cannot be seen lasts forever"
